Maite studied music in Spain and Italy, where she won a big singing competition called the Toti dal Monte International Singing Contest. She has performed in many famous theaters and concert halls not only in Spain but also in countries like Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United States.

Early Life and Education

Maite Arruabarrena Unanue was born in Errenteria, a town close to San Sebastián in Spain. Her journey into the world of singing began at the San Sebastián Conservatory. There, she was introduced to music and singing by José Luis Ansorena and the Coral Andra Mari, a well-known choir.

She continued to develop her voice at the Orfeón Donostiarra Voice School, where she learned from Isabel Álvarez. To further improve her skills, Maite traveled to Italy to train with Claude Thiolas, a respected vocal coach. Interestingly, while pursuing her musical dreams, she also earned a degree in psychology from the University of the Basque Country.

Singing Career and Performances

After winning the prestigious Toti dal Monte International Singing Contest in 1989, Maite Arruabarrena's career took off. This award helped her gain recognition and perform in many important theaters and concert halls. She has sung in various operas, showcasing her versatile mezzo-soprano voice.

Her performances have included roles in famous operas such as La Cenerentola, Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Così fan tutte. She has also appeared in works by famous composers like Mozart, including Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and La clemenza di Tito. Other notable operas in her repertoire include Orfeo ed Euridice, Falstaff, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Rigoletto, Faust, La forza del destino, Goyescas, and Viento es la dicha de amor.
