Maitland is a small, unincorporated community in McDowell County, West Virginia, United States. It is not an official town with its own government. You can find Maitland along U.S. Route 52. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of a larger town called Welch.
History of Maitland
Maitland got its name from an official who worked at a local mine. The exact reason why this name was chosen is not known today. Like many communities in this area, Maitland likely grew because of the coal mining industry.
