Maja's Tennis Journey
Early Years and Junior Success (2015–2017)
Maja showed great promise in her junior years. In 2015, she won the European 14-and-under doubles title. The following year, in 2016, she won the 16-and-under doubles title, both times partnering with fellow Polish player Iga Świątek. Maja was also a key member of the Polish team that won the Junior Fed Cup title in 2016. Her success continued into 2017, when she reached the final of the Australian Open junior doubles. Six months later, she won the 16-and-under singles title. Her highest junior ranking in Europe was No. 6 in August 2017.
Stepping Up to Senior Play (2019)
In 2019, Maja made her debut for Poland in the senior Fed Cup competition. She teamed up with Alicja Rosolska in doubles and secured her first Fed Cup win against Denmark. That year, she also achieved success on the ITF circuit, reaching a doubles final in Trnava and singles semifinals in Altenkirchen. Maja won her first ITF doubles title in Sunderland, England, with Ulrikke Eikeri. She then went on to win two singles ITF titles in a row in Poland during July and August.
Grand Slam Dreams and Challenges (2020–2021)
Maja first tried to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament at the 2020 Australian Open. Although she didn't make it through, it was an important step. In 2021, she faced some tough times. After dealing with a wrist injury and getting sick with COVID-19, Maja made a brave decision. She decided to take a break from professional tennis to focus on her health and well-being. She shared that she had been facing personal challenges and needed time away from the sport. After taking this important time for herself, she returned to the courts stronger and more determined.
Wimbledon Debut and Tour Wins (2022–2023)
Maja made her exciting debut in a major tournament main draw at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. She successfully qualified by defeating a strong opponent, CoCo Vandeweghe. At Wimbledon, she achieved her first singles win by beating Kateřina Siniaková. Later, she received a special invitation (a wildcard) to play in the main draw of the 2022 Poland Open, where she earned another tour-level victory against Rebeka Masarova.
Rising Through the Ranks (2024–2025)
The years 2024 and 2025 were full of achievements for Maja. In October 2024, she qualified for the main draw of the Mérida Open and secured her first WTA Tour win on hardcourts against Rebecca Marino.
Partnering with Katarzyna Kawa, Maja won her first WTA 125 doubles title at the 2024 Argentina Open. Just a week later, she claimed her first WTA 125 singles title at the MundoTenis Open in Florianópolis, Brazil. She also won the doubles title there with Laura Pigossi. These victories helped her reach a new career-high singles ranking of world No. 128 by December 2024.
In 2025, Maja continued her winning streak. She won her second WTA 125 singles title at the 2025 Montreux Ladies Open, showing her growing strength on the clay courts.
Historic French Open Final (2026)
The year 2026 has been truly incredible for Maja. In February, she achieved two more tour-level wins as a qualifier at the 2026 Transylvania Open in Romania.
In April, she won her third WTA 125 singles title at the 2026 Oeiras Ladies Open. However, the biggest highlight came at the 2026 French Open in Paris. Ranked No. 114, Maja successfully qualified for the main draw. She then went on an amazing run, defeating several top players, including Zheng Qinwen, Elise Mertens, and Maria Sakkari. She reached the fourth round, joining Iga Świątek as the first two Polish women to reach this stage at Roland Garros in the same year. Maja continued to make history by defeating Diane Parry to reach the quarterfinals, becoming only the fourth Polish woman in the Open Era to do so. Her incredible journey didn't stop there; she defeated Anna Kalinskaya and Diana Shnaider to reach the final! This made her the first qualifier ever to play in the final at Roland Garros, and only the second qualifier to reach a major final in the Open Era. This outstanding performance propelled her into the top 25 world rankings.
