Majin Buu (Japanese: 魔人ブウ, Hepburn: Majin Bū), also known as Majin Boo, is a major villain in the Dragon Ball series. He was created by Akira Toriyama. Majin Buu first appeared in the Dragon Ball manga in chapter #460. This chapter was published on March 1, 1994, in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine.
Majin Buu is a powerful magical being, like a genie. He was created by an evil warlock named Bibidi. Millions of years ago, Buu caused chaos by destroying entire planets. Bibidi managed to seal him away and bring him to Earth. However, Bibidi was killed, and Buu remained hidden. Later, during the events of Dragon Ball Z, Bibidi's son Babidi revived Buu. Babidi wanted Buu to help him take over the whole universe.
Majin Buu's Look and Forms
When Majin Buu first appears, he is quite overweight. He wears gloves, boots, a vest, and a cape. His look and magical powers are similar to a genie. The Japanese word "Majin" in his name can mean "Djinn", which is another word for genie. This is why some English versions call him "Djinn-Boo".
All of Buu's forms have an "M" symbol on their trousers. This "M" might stand for "Majin" (Buu's title) or "Madoshi" (Babidi's title in Japanese). The creator, Akira Toriyama, said that Buu's design was inspired by One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights) stories. He watched these stories when he was a child.
Majin Buu acts very innocent and childlike. He enjoys fighting and scaring people. Throughout the series, he is always called Majin Buu or just Buu. However, his different forms have special names in guidebooks and video games.
- The first fat form is called "Innocent Majin Buu" (無邪気な魔人ブウ, Mujakina Majin Bū).
- When Buu gets rid of the evil inside him, it becomes a tall, skinny form. This is called "Pure Evil Majin Buu" (魔人ブウ 純粋悪, Majin Bū Junsui Aku).
- When this evil form absorbs the fat Buu, he becomes very muscular. This form is known as "Evil Majin Buu" (魔人ブウ 悪, Majin Bū Aku), or "Super Buu" in English.
Voice Actors for Majin Buu
In the original Japanese versions, Kōzō Shioya voices Majin Buu in all his forms. He thought of the character as a self-centered three-year-old. Shioya tried to keep the original personality even as Buu changed forms.
In the Funimation English dub, Josh Martin voices Fat and Kid Buu. Justin Cook voices Evil and Super Buu. In the Ocean Group dubs, Scott McNeil voices Fat Buu. Brian Dobson voices Evil, Super, and Kid Buu.
Majin Buu's Amazing Powers
Majin Buu is the final villain in the original Dragon Ball series. This means he is one of the most powerful characters. He has incredible superhuman strength, speed, and quick reflexes. He can use his inner ki energy to create powerful attacks. These attacks are strong enough to destroy planets or even star systems.
Buu has a special ability to turn objects or living things into chocolate or other sweets. He then eats them to satisfy his hunger. He uses the antenna on his head for this. He can also magically change how things look.
Buu can heal himself instantly from serious injuries. He can even recover if his body is blown apart. He can also heal wounds on other people. His body is soft and very flexible. He can stretch his limbs and any part of his body to great lengths. He can also change his shape into anything he wants.
He can also detach large parts of his body. He uses these parts to grab targets like a rope. He can also make copies of himself. This ability also lets him absorb other people to gain their power. Buu can quickly copy techniques used against him. For example, he can use Goku's Kamehameha attack. In his original form, he can even use Instant Transmission to move instantly. Buu also gained powerful ki after absorbing two Supreme Kai. He kept this power even after changing back to his pure form.
