Pumla Makaziwe "Maki" Mandela-Amuah, born on May 1, 1954, is a well-known South African. She is the daughter of the famous leader Nelson Mandela and his first wife, Evelyn Mase.
Early Life and Education
Makaziwe grew up in a family with a rich history. Her father, Nelson Mandela, came from a long line of leaders of the Thembu people. He was even supposed to become a chief himself in a place called Mvezo. Later, her nephew, Mandla, took on this important role.
Makaziwe was named after her older sister, who sadly passed away when she was only nine months old. Of the four children Nelson and Evelyn Mandela had, Makaziwe is the only one still alive today.
She attended Waterford Kamhlaba UWC of Southern Africa for her high school education. After that, she studied at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa. In 1993, she earned a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Career and Achievements
Makaziwe Mandela-Amuah has held important jobs at top institutions. She worked at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
Today, she leads the Industrial Development Group (IDG). This group has business interests in areas like mining and petroleum.

These values include freedom, respect for others, and fighting against unfair treatment. She also works to help women gain economic independence through a group called Nozala. The award ceremony took place in Rome, Italy.
