Maksim Aleksandrovich Shatskikh (born 30 August 1978) is a famous Uzbekistani football coach and former player. He is currently the manager of Pakhtakor Tashkent.
Maksim Shatskikh was a very successful striker. Many people consider him one of the best Uzbekistani players ever. He was the top goalscorer for his national team, Uzbekistan, with 34 goals in 61 games. He also holds the record as the joint all-time top scorer in the Ukrainian Premier League with 123 goals. He played for Dynamo Kyiv for ten years, from 1999 to 2009.
On 28 July 1999, Shatskikh made history as the first Asian player to score in the UEFA Champions League. He also played in three AFC Asian Cup tournaments for Uzbekistan. In 2011, he helped his team reach fourth place in the competition. He finished his playing career with Rukh Vynnyky in 2016 and then started coaching at the Dynamo football academy. His brother, Oleg Shatskikh, was also a footballer.

Maksim Shatskikh's Football Journey
Playing for Dynamo Kyiv
After playing for several clubs in Uzbekistan and Russia, Maksim Shatskikh joined Ukrainian Premier League team Dynamo Kyiv in 1999. He was brought in to replace the star player Andriy Shevchenko, who had moved to A.C. Milan. In his very first season with Dynamo, Shatskikh scored two goals in a 3–2 win against Karpaty Lviv. This victory helped Dynamo win their 8th league title in a row. People in the media started calling him "the next Shevchenko."
In his first year at Dynamo Kyiv, he not only won the Ukrainian Premier League but also became the league's top scorer with 20 goals. In the 2002–03 season, he scored 22 goals, matching a record set by Serhii Rebrov. Shatskikh also scored 5 goals in his first UEFA Champions League season in 1999–2000. His first Champions League goal was on 28 July 1999, against Žalgiris Vilnius. Overall, he played nine seasons in the UEFA Champions League with Kyiv, scoring 11 goals.
Time with Arsenal Kyiv
After playing for Lokomotiv Astana in Kazakhstan in 2009, Shatskikh returned to Kyiv. He joined Arsenal Kyiv during the winter break. While playing for Arsenal Kyiv, Maksim Shatskikh scored his 100th league goal. On 7 April 2010, the president of Arsenal Kyiv gave him a special Golden Ball award to celebrate this amazing achievement. The president even joked that he would order another Golden Ball for Shatskikh's 200th goal!
At the start of the 2013–14 season, Shatskikh rejoined Arsenal Kyiv after a short time with Chornomorets Odesa.
Playing for Hoverla
On 30 December 2013, Maksim Shatskikh signed a contract with Hoverla Uzhhorod. On 27 July 2014, he scored his 122nd goal in the Ukrainian Premier League during a 2–2 draw against Karpaty Lviv.
On 23 August 2014, in a Ukrainian Cup match, Hoverla won 2–1 against Cherkaskyi Dnipro, and Shatskikh scored his team's second goal. This goal brought his total in the Ukrainian Cup to 24 goals. He became the second-best goalscorer in the tournament's history, just one goal behind Andriy Vorobey.
Maksim Shatskikh is the highest goalscorer in the history of the Ukrainian Premier League with 124 goals. He broke Serhii Rebrov's record on 4 October 2014, when he scored his 124th goal in a match against Zorya Luhansk. He is also a member of the Oleh Blokhin club, which recognizes players who have scored 100 or more goals in Ukrainian football.
After the 2014–15 season, Shatskikh left Hoverla. He later had a disagreement with the club about unpaid salary.
Playing for His Country: Uzbekistan
Maksim Shatskikh was a talented player from a young age. He could have chosen to play for either Uzbekistan or Russia, but he decided to represent his home country, Uzbekistan.
In 2005, Shatskikh was named one of the three best Asian players. On 13 October 2007, he scored an amazing 5 goals in one match against Taiwan. On 2 June 2008, he scored a goal for Uzbekistan in a 7–3 win over Singapore during a World Cup qualification game. This goal made him the joint top scorer for the national team alongside Mirjalol Kasymov. On 15 October 2008, he scored against Japan, becoming the all-time top scorer for Uzbekistan.
On 29 May 2014, Shatskikh played his final match for the national team in a friendly game against Oman. He played 61 matches for Uzbekistan and scored 34 goals. He held the record as Uzbekistan's leading national team goalscorer until June 2023, when Eldor Shomurodov broke his record.

Maksim Shatskikh became a citizen of Ukraine after he retired from playing football.
