Malachi Throne (born December 1, 1928 – died March 13, 2013) was an American actor. He was well-known for playing Noah Bain in the TV show It Takes a Thief. He also appeared as a guest star in many other TV series. These included popular shows like Star Trek and Batman. Malachi Throne also acted in movies and on stage.

Malachi Throne's Early Life

Malachi Throne was born in New York City. His parents, Samuel and Rebecca Throne, were Jewish immigrants from Austria-Hungary and Russia. Malachi grew up in The Bronx. He first acted on stage when he was ten years old. This was in 1939, in a play called Tom Sawyer. He played the character Huckleberry Finn.

He went to Brooklyn College. Later, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Malachi had two sons, Zach and Josh, with his first wife, Judith Merians.

Acting on Television

Malachi Throne was a popular guest star on many TV shows. These included series from the 1960s and 1970s. Some of these shows were The Defenders, The Fugitive, and Hogan's Heroes. He also appeared in Lost in Space and Babylon 5.

He starred alongside Robert Wagner in the TV series It Takes a Thief. Malachi Throne was a favorite actor of TV producer Irwin Allen. He appeared in many of Allen's shows. These included Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants. He often played different characters in the same series.

His Roles in Star Trek

Malachi Throne provided the voice for the Keeper. This was in the first pilot episode of Star Trek, called "The Cage" (1964). Later, he played Commodore José I. Méndez in the two-part episode "The Menagerie". The Keeper's voice was changed for this episode.

He also appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He played Pardek, a Romulan senator, in the episode "Unification".

His Roles in Batman

Malachi Throne played the bad guy False-Face in the ABC series Batman. This character used many disguises. He wore a special mask that made his face hard to recognize. Because of this, the show's producers credited him as "? as False Face". However, his full name was shown in the end credits of one episode. Later, he voiced characters in animated shows. He was the Judge on The New Batman Adventures (1998). He also voiced Fingers the Gorilla on Batman Beyond (2000).

Film Appearances

Malachi Throne acted in several movies. Some of his film roles included The Young Lovers (1964) and Beau Geste (1966). He also appeared in The Greatest (1977) and Stunts (1977). One of his last film roles was a small part in Catch Me if You Can (2002). His final film role was voicing Ranakar in the animated movie Green Lantern: First Flight (2009).

Theater Work

Malachi Throne lived in Southern California. He performed in many local theater productions there. He was part of the Theater West company in Hollywood. He also received praise for his acting at the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles. Earlier in his career, he acted on Broadway in New York City.

Advertising Work

Malachi Throne was a national TV spokesperson for Ziebart. He appeared in many of their commercials during the 1970s. He also narrated the trailer for the famous movie Star Wars in 1976.

Discography

In 1980, Malachi Throne narrated a vinyl record version of the Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back. In 1999, he narrated the album Tonight the Stars Revolt! for the rock band Powerman 5000.

Death

Malachi Throne passed away on March 13, 2013. He was 84 years old. He died from lung cancer at his home in Brentwood, California.
