Malaric facts for kids
Malaric (also called Amalaric) was an important figure in the history of the Suevi people. He was the last person to try and become king of the Suevi kingdom in a region called Galicia. This happened in the year 585.
The End of the Suevi Kingdom
In 585, the Suevi kingdom was going through big changes. The previous king, Audeca, had been defeated and captured by a powerful group called the Visigoths. After this defeat, Malaric stepped forward. He said he was related to an earlier Suevi king named King Miro. Because of this, Malaric tried to start a rebellion to take control of the kingdom.
However, Malaric's attempt to become king didn't last long. According to a writer from that time, John of Biclar, Malaric was quickly defeated. He was captured by the army of King Leovigild, who was the king of the Visigoths. Malaric was then brought to King Leovigild in chains. This event marked the end of the Suevi kingdom, as it was then taken over by the Visigoths.
