Malcolm Hebden, born on December 21, 1939, is a retired English actor. He is most famous for playing Norris Cole in the popular TV show Coronation Street. He played Norris from 1994 to 1997, and then regularly from 1999 to 2017. He also made guest appearances in 2019 and 2020. At 81 years old, he decided to stop acting because of health reasons.

Early Life of Malcolm Hebden
Malcolm Hebden was born in Chester, England, on December 21, 1939. His family moved to Burnley just three weeks later. He went to West Gate High School. After school, he started working as a window dresser in Burnley.
School Challenges
School was sometimes hard for Malcolm. He had "severe dyslexia", which is a learning difference that can make reading and writing difficult.
Starting Acting
Malcolm loved acting from a young age. He joined amateur drama groups, which are acting clubs for fun. One of these groups was called The Highcliffe Players. When he was 28, he went to the Rose Bruford Drama School in London. After finishing drama school, he began his career in theatre.

Malcolm Hebden had many roles during his acting career. He is best known for his long-running part in Coronation Street.
Coronation Street Roles
Malcolm first appeared in Coronation Street in 1974. He played a character named Carlos, who was the Spanish boyfriend of Mavis Riley. He played Carlos until 1975.
His most famous role was Norris Cole. He first appeared as Norris in 1994. He left the show in 1997 but returned in December 1999. Norris Cole became a very popular character on the show.
Other TV Appearances
Besides Coronation Street, Malcolm Hebden appeared in other TV shows. He was in the first episode of the British TV series Heartbeat. He also appeared in a later episode of the same show.
He played a toy salesman named Oliver Shawcross in a show called Albion Market. In 1999, he had a small role as a pharmacist in the TV film Lost for Words. He also appeared in Last of the Summer Wine and Children's Ward.
Awards and Recognition
Malcolm Hebden won several awards for his acting. In May 2006, he won the Best Onscreen Partnership award at the British Soap Awards. He shared this award with his co-star Barbara Knox, who played Rita Sullivan.
He also won the Funniest Character award at the Inside Soap Awards two years in a row. He received this award in 2001 and again in 2002. These awards showed how much fans enjoyed his performances.
Health and Retirement
In December 2017, Malcolm Hebden had a serious health issue. He was away from Coronation Street for a while because of it. He returned briefly in May 2019. His final appearance on the show was in June 2020. In January 2021, at the age of 81, he announced that he was retiring from acting.
