Malkia Roberts was born in Washington, D.C. in 1927. She loved art and studied it in college. She earned her first degree from Howard University. Later, she got another advanced degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan.

Teaching Career

Roberts spent much of her life teaching art. She taught in public schools in Washington, D.C. One of the schools was the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She also taught at Shaw Junior High School. There, she worked alongside another famous artist, Alma Thomas, for many years.

Malkia Roberts also taught art at several universities. She was a professor at D.C. Teachers College. She also taught at State University of New York at Oswego. Other places she taught included Washington Technical Institute and American University. From 1976 to 1985, she taught at Howard University.

Artistic Journey and Influences

Roberts traveled a lot during her life. These travels helped her art. Many of her paintings were inspired by African ideas and cultures. She also studied art with a well-known artist named Hale Woodruff.
