Malmköping is a small town in Sweden. It is located in Södermanland County, within Flen Municipality. In 2020, about 2,180 people lived there.
Malmköping is about 15 kilometers north of Flen. Flen is the main town of the municipality. Malmköping is a popular place for visitors. This is because it hosts many yearly markets. The tradition of these markets is very old. It goes back more than 200 years. Malmköping officially became a "market town" in 1785.
One exciting thing to see in Malmköping is its museum tramway. It is called the Museispårvägen Malmköping . Here, you can ride old trams. These trams come from many different tram systems in Sweden. A famous Olympian, Helge Meuller, was born in Malmköping.
Malmköping in Books and Movies
The town of Malmköping is featured in a popular book. It is the starting point for Jonas Jonasson's 2009 novel. The book is called The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. However, the movie based on the book was filmed in a different place. It was recorded in Munkedal, which is in Bohuslän.
