Malmöhus County (which in Swedish was called Malmöhus län) was a special area, like a region, in southern Sweden. It had its main office, or "seat," in the city of Malmö. This county was created a long time ago in 1719. It stopped being a separate county on December 31, 1996. After that, it became part of a new, bigger area called Skåne County.

What Was Malmöhus County?

Malmöhus County was one of the many counties that helped manage different parts of Sweden. Think of a county as a large administrative area, similar to a state or a big district in other countries. It had its own local government and a leader who made sure things ran smoothly.

The county was named after the Malmöhus Castle, a historic fortress in Malmö. This castle was an important landmark and gave the county its identity.

Who Were the Governors?

A governor was the main leader of a county in Sweden. Their job was to make sure the county followed the laws and rules set by the national government. They also helped manage local services and projects. It was a very important role, like being the head of a big region.

Malmöhus County had many governors during its history, from 1719 until 1996.

First and Last Governors

The very first governor of Malmöhus County was Carl Gustaf Hård. He served from 1719 to 1727. He helped set up the county's administration and get things started.

The last governor was Ann-Cathrine Haglund. She served from 1993 until 1996. She oversaw the final years of Malmöhus County before it joined with another area to form Skåne County.

Many other people served as governors between Carl Gustaf Hård and Ann-Cathrine Haglund. Each governor played a part in the history and development of the county.
