The Historic Priory Gatehouse

The building where the museum is located is called the Priory Gatehouse. It was built in the late 1400s. It's the second oldest building in Great Malvern. The Priory Church is the oldest.

History of the Gatehouse

The Gatehouse was the main way to enter the Priory. It's one of the few old monastery buildings that survived. Most were destroyed during the Dissolution of the monasteries in 1539.

After the Priory closed, the Gatehouse was sold. It changed hands several times over the centuries. In the 1800s, it was used as offices for lawyers and architects. The top floor even served as a police court for a while! Today, it's a museum, sharing Malvern's rich history.
