What is Malvern Station?
Malvern station is a busy place where people catch trains. It is part of the Gippsland line. This line helps connect Melbourne to other parts of Victoria.
How the Station Changed Over Time
When the station was rebuilt in 1914, workers added more tracks. This is called quadruplication, meaning they made four tracks instead of fewer. They also made the tracks more level, which is called re-grading. This made train travel smoother and faster.
For many years, the station also had special tracks for goods trains. These were called electrified goods sidings. They were used to move goods by train. These extra tracks were removed in 1988.
Platforms and Train Services
Malvern station has four platforms. A platform is the raised area next to the tracks where you wait for your train. The station is used by Metro Trains for their Frankston line services.
Platform 1
- Frankston line: Trains from this platform go towards Flinders Street. Some trains stop at every station, while others skip a few stops. You can also catch trains to Werribee and Williamstown from here.
Platform 2
- Frankston line: Trains from this platform go towards Frankston. These trains also have both all-stations and limited-express services.
Platforms 3 and 4
- These platforms do not have regular train services anymore. Trains on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines used to stop here. However, they stopped using these platforms on 31 January 2021.
