Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Manila is a small, unincorporated community located in the southern part of Pettis County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.

Where is Manila Located?

Manila is situated in the central United States, within the state of Missouri. You can find it about one mile north of Missouri Route 52, right on Missouri Route E. It's also about three miles north of the line that separates Pettis County from Benton County. The larger city of Sedalia is located about eleven miles to the north-northeast of Manila.

A Look at Manila's Past

The community of Manila got its name from the famous city of Manila, which is the capital of the Philippines. A post office was opened in Manila in 1898. This post office served the local residents for several years, helping them send and receive mail. It remained in operation until 1904.
