Manuel Benedito Vives (born December 25, 1875 – died June 20, 1963) was a famous Spanish painter. He was born in Valencia, Spain, on Christmas Day in 1875. His father worked with animals, and his brother was a musician.

Early Life and Education

Manuel Benedito showed his artistic talent from a young age. When he was just 13, he started studying art. He joined the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia.

He spent six years learning and improving his skills there. After graduating, he began working with a well-known painter named Joaquín Sorolla. Two years later, he moved to Madrid with Sorolla to continue his artistic journey.

Artistic Career and Style

Manuel Benedito Vives was a member of the Academia de Bellas Artes de España from 1900 to 1904. Later, he also taught art at the School of San Fernando. This shows how respected he was in the art world.

He painted many different subjects. These included peaceful landscapes and detailed still lifes. However, he was most famous for his amazing portraits. He became especially known for these paintings later in his life. He even painted King Alfonso XIII of Spain several times.

Awards and Legacy

Manuel Benedito Vives received an important award in 1944. He was given the Civil Order of Alfonso X, the Wise. This award recognized his great contributions to art and culture.

Today, you can see his work at the Fundación Manuel Benedito museum. This museum was opened in October 2020 by his niece, Vicenta Benedito. It is located in Madrid, in the very building that used to be his art studio. This museum helps keep his artistic legacy alive for future generations.
