Manuel Martín Piñera was born in a place called Cabezón de la Sal in Cantabria, Spain. This was on June 3, 1931. After he stopped racing bikes in 1970, a friend helped him get a job. He worked there until he retired from that job too.

In 1968, when he was 38 years old, he joined the Karpy team. He even won two stages in the Vuelta a España that year while being a team leader. He retired from cycling after the 1969 season.
