Manuel Sanchís Martínez (born March 26, 1938 – died October 28, 2017) was a famous Spanish footballer. He played as a defender.

Manuel Sanchís is special because his son, Manolo Sanchís, also played for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. They are one of only four father-son duos to have won the European Cup/Champions League. Manuel played in 213 La Liga matches over ten seasons. He also played for the national team in the 1966 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Top Teams

Manuel Sanchís was born in Alberic, Valencia, Spain. During his football career, he played for several teams. These included CD Condal, Real Valladolid, Real Madrid, and Córdoba CF.

He was a key player for the successful Real Madrid team in the mid-1960s. This team won four La Liga championships in just five years! They also won the European Cup in 1966. This is now known as the UEFA Champions League. Sanchís played in 35 European Cup games for Real Madrid.

Playing for Spain

Sanchís played 11 games for the Spanish national team. He represented Spain in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. During the group stage of this tournament, he scored a rare goal. This goal helped Spain win 2–1 against Switzerland.

His Playing Style

Manuel Sanchís was a defender who loved to attack. Earlier in his career, he even played as a forward. He was known for his amazing physical strength and skill. He was a very classy and talented defender.

Coaching Football

After he stopped playing, Sanchís became a coach. He started by coaching the youth teams at Real Madrid. He also managed CD Tenerife in Spain's second division. Later, he became the coach for the national team of Equatorial Guinea.

After coaching in Equatorial Guinea, he returned to Spain. He then managed several smaller clubs. These included AD Torrejón, AD Parla, Daimiel CF, CD Don Benito, and UD Alzira.

His Passing

Manuel Sanchís passed away on October 28, 2017, in Madrid. He was 79 years old.
