Manuela Pinto Vieira d'Ávila (born on August 18, 1981) is a Brazilian journalist, author, and politician. She has held important roles in government.

Manuela was a member of the PCdoB for many years. She served as a federal deputy for Rio Grande do Sul from 2007 to 2015. A federal deputy is like a representative in the national parliament. She was also the leader of her party in the Chamber of Deputies in 2013.

Later, she became a state deputy for Rio Grande do Sul from 2015 to 2019. A state deputy works in the government of a specific state. Before that, she was a city councilor for Porto Alegre, her home city, from 2005 to 2007. A city councilor helps make decisions for the city.

Manuela also ran for mayor of Porto Alegre three times. These attempts were in 2008, 2012, and 2020. In 2018, she was the running mate for Fernando Haddad in the presidential election. They ran for the Worker's Party. However, they did not win the election. In 2024, Manuela announced she was leaving the PCdoB party.

Manuela d'Ávila was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She began her journey in politics while she was still a student. She joined the PCdoB party.

In 2004, at just 23 years old, she made history. She became the youngest city councilor ever elected in Porto Alegre. This was a big achievement for a young person.

Becoming a Federal Deputy

Manuela was elected as a federal deputy in 2006. She was reelected for the same role in 2010. In both elections, she received the most votes of any candidate in her state. This showed how much support she had from the people.

Running for Mayor

Manuela tried to become the mayor of her city, Porto Alegre, three times. In 2008, she finished in third place. In 2012, she came in second place. She was defeated in the first round of voting.

In 2020, she announced her plan to run for mayor again. The Workers' Party supported her. They nominated Miguel Rossetto to be her running mate. However, she lost in the second round to Sebastião Melo.

State Deputy Role

In 2014, Manuela was elected as a state deputy. She received the highest number of votes for that position that year. This continued her strong record of public support.

Presidential Campaign

In 2017, Manuela was considered a possible candidate for President of Brazil. This was for the 2018 election. However, she later decided to support Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva instead.

When Lula was not able to run, Fernando Haddad became the candidate. On September 11, 2018, Manuela became Haddad's running mate. They came in second place in the first round of voting. They moved on to the second round. But they lost the election to Jair Bolsonaro and his running mate Hamilton Mourão.

Manuela as an Author

In 2019, Manuela published her first book. It was called Revolução Laura: reflexões sobre maternidade e resistência. The book shares her personal experiences as a mother. It talks about being a mom after her daughter, Laura, was born. The book also discusses topics like feminism and political activism while being a mother. It explores the challenges of raising a child as a politician.

She published her second book, Por que lutamos?, in the same year. Her third book, E se fosse você, came out in 2020.

Manuela chose not to run for office in the 2022 general election. Some people thought she might run for the Federal Senate.

Manuela's Family Life

Manuela d'Ávila is married to the musician Duca Leindecker. Their daughter, Laura, was born on August 27, 2015.
