Waterloo Maple Inc. is a Canadian software company. It is based in Waterloo, Ontario. The company is known by its trade name, Maplesoft. They are famous for making two main computer programs: Maple and MapleSim. Maple helps with advanced math, while MapleSim is used for modeling and simulating physical systems.
Maplesoft's Story
Maplesoft started as Waterloo Maple Software in April 1988. It was founded by two professors, Keith Geddes and Gaston Gonnet. They both taught in the computer science department at the University of Waterloo.
In 2003, the company officially changed its main business name to Maplesoft. A few years later, in 2009, a company from Japan called Cybernet Systems Co., Ltd. bought Maplesoft. This meant Maplesoft became part of the Cybernet Systems Group.
In 2018, Maplesoft created a new, separate company called DigitalEd. This new company took over some of Maplesoft's products, like Möbius. Later that year, Dr. Laurent Bernardin became the new CEO and President of Maplesoft. He used to be a student of one of the company's founders, Gaston Gonnet.
