Her Musical Journey
María Escribano was born in Madrid, Spain. She started her music journey by studying piano and composition. She learned at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. Her teachers included famous composers like Antón García Abril and Roman Alis.
She didn't stop there! María kept learning about modern music. She studied with many important composers. These included Carmelo Bernaola, Cristobal Halffter, and Tomas Marco. She also learned about music analysis from Rodolfo Halffter. This was at the Festival de Granada. She even studied with Mauricio Kagel and Ligeti Giorgy in Germany. She also learned from Luis de Pablo in Madrid. Later, she studied orchestration and composition with Leonardo Balada. This was at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.
After finishing her studies, María lived in Avila. She worked as a composer and a music educator.
Special Opportunities
In 1978, María received a special scholarship. It was from the Foundation Juan March. This allowed her to become a composer-in-residence. She worked for three years at the Roy Hart Theatre Company in France. There, she also played the piano and acted. She worked with pianist Ana Vega-Toscano on a project called Spell of Robin Hood. María also directed a creative center called AGAD. This was in Arenas de San Pedro, Ávila. She worked with actor Manuel Azquinezer there.
Teaching Music to Kids
María Escribano was very active as a music teacher. She created a special program called "The Garden of Music" in Madrid. It was at the Centre El Ardal. This program was for children aged three to sixteen. She especially wanted to help them learn to improvise and compose their own music. She also had a music program for very young children. These were kids from 18 months to three years old. María Escribano passed away in Madrid.
