María Estefanía Dávalos y Maldonado was a talented artist from Ecuador. She was a sculptor and a painter. Born on January 5, 1725, in Chimborazo Province, she became an important part of the famous Quito School of art in the 18th century. She passed away in Quito around 1801.

Her most well-known artwork is a sculpture called La Virgen del Carmen. You can find this beautiful sculpture in a monastery in Ecuador. One of her earliest known paintings, La conversión de San Pablo, was created around 1738.

She came from an important family. Her sister was Magdalena Dávalos y Maldonado, who was also a notable person. María Estefanía was also the niece of Pedro Vicente Maldonado, a very famous scientist and geographer from Ecuador.
