About María Lozano Hernández
María Lozano Hernández was born on October 11, 1909, in Valladolid, Spain. Her parents were Encarnación Hernández and Ramón Lozano. She grew up in a time of big changes and challenges in her country.
Her Work as an Activist
María was a member of an important group called Solidaridad Internacional Antifascista (SIA). This group was started in April 1937 by another organization called the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT). SIA was a non-governmental organization that worked to help people and support anti-fascist ideas during the Spanish Civil War.
A Difficult Time
In December 1939, María was held in a prison called the Ventas Women's Prison. She had her baby son with her, who was only five months old. The baby's father was also in prison at that time.
Sadly, in January 1940, María's baby became very ill and passed away. It was a very sad and difficult time for María.
The day after her baby passed away, María also died. Her son's father, Florentino Salcedo, also passed away that same day. María was buried in the La Almudena cemetery in Madrid. She was one of many people who died during a difficult period in Spain after the Spanish Civil War.
