María de San Antonio Lorenzo y Fuentes (also known as Sor María de San Antonino) was a Dominican religious sister and a Spanish mystic. She was born on August 5, 1665, in Garachico, Tenerife, and passed away on May 10, 1741, in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife.
Her Life Story
María de San Antonio came from a wealthy family. She chose to become a nun in the Dominican order. She lived in the Convento de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves in Puerto de la Cruz. Sadly, this convent was destroyed by a fire in 1925.
Special Gifts and Miracles
People believed that María de San Antonio had special gifts. One of these was the ability to "read souls." This meant she could understand what people were thinking or feeling deep inside.
For example, it is said that she knew what a servant named Felipa was praying for. Felipa was asking God to send her to purgatory after she died. María de San Antonio told her to ask God to go to heaven instead!
Another story tells of a mason (a builder who works with stone) who was working at the convent. He accidentally fell from a high place. But instead of crashing to the ground, he floated down gently and landed without any injuries! People believed this happened because the workman had prayed to the nun for safety.
Her Passing and Legacy
María de San Antonio died on May 10, 1741. Records from that time say that her body remained "incorrupt." This means it did not decay, and her blood was said to stay fresh. However, her body is no longer preserved today. It disappeared during the convent fire in 1925.
