About Marc Seales
Marc Seales is a Professor of Jazz Piano. He teaches at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has worked with many famous musicians. These include Benny Carter, Howard Roberts, Bobby Hutcherson, and Art Pepper.
Marc has his own music groups. Two of them are called New Stories and the Marc Seales Quartet. He won the Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award in 1999. This award was for being the Best Instrumentalist. His biggest musical heroes were Floyd Standifer and Don Lanphere. They were both from Seattle too.
A small part of his song 'Highway Blues' was very famous. It was included by default in Windows XP. This meant many computers had his music! Other songs included were Beethoven's 9th Symphony and David Byrne's "Like Humans Do". His band, New Stories, had a special reunion tour in 2019.
Marc has won many awards from Earshot. He was named Instrumentalist of the Year in 1999. His group won Acoustic Jazz Group in 2000 and 2001. In 2009, he was added to the Jazz Hall of Fame.
