Marc de Beauvau (born François Vincent Marc on April 29, 1679 – died March 10, 1754) was an important member of the powerful French House of Beauvau. He held several impressive titles during his lifetime. He was known as the Prince of Craon and also the Prince of Beauvau. He was even made a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, which was a large group of states in Central Europe. Marc de Beauvau also served as the Viceroy of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, acting as a ruler there. He and his wife were very good friends with the Duke and Duchess of Lorraine, who ruled a small state nearby. He was also given the special title of "Grandee of Spain", which meant he was one of the highest-ranking nobles in Spain.

Marc de Beauvau's Life Story

Marc de Beauvau was born in Nancy in 1679. Nancy was the capital city of the Duchy of Lorraine. His father was a nobleman with the title of Marquis. Marc grew up as a childhood friend of Leopold I of Lorraine. Leopold later became the Duke of this small state.

Marc and the Duke spent a lot of time together. Because of their friendship, Duke Leopold later gave Marc the title of Marquisate of Craon. Marc married Anne Marguerite de Ligniville on December 16, 1704, in Lunéville. Anne was a Countess of the Holy Roman Empire. She later became a lady-in-waiting to the Duchess of Lorraine.

Marc later became the governor for Francis I of Lorraine. In 1722, Francis I granted Marc the title of Prince of Beauvau. Marc also played a key role in arranging the marriage between Francis I of Lorraine and Maria Theresa of Austria. This marriage was very important for European history. The future Holy Roman Emperor also made Marc a Prince of the Holy Roman Empire. Marc and his wife had 15 children together. One of their sons later became the next Prince of Craon.
