Early Life and Artistic Beginnings
When Marcel was just three years old, he moved with his parents to Spain. They settled in the city of Barcelona. His family faced difficulties during the Spanish Civil War.
Marcel started drawing when he was 17 years old. By 1946, he became very interested in making sculptures. This was the beginning of his journey as an artist.
Becoming a Sculptor
Marcel Martí had his first art show in Barcelona in 1948. People began to notice his work. By 1953, he decided to focus almost entirely on creating sculptures.
His amazing artworks were shown in many exhibitions and museums. You could find his sculptures in places all over the Americas and also in Spain.
His Unique Art Style
At first, Marcel Martí created sculptures that were "figurative." This means they looked like real people or objects. But after 1958, his art style changed.
Most of his later works became "abstract." Abstract art doesn't try to show things exactly as they look. Instead, it uses shapes, forms, and colors to express feelings or ideas.
Marcel Martí passed away on August 11, 2010, in Catalonia, Spain. He was 85 years old and left behind many wonderful sculptures.
