Marcelo Mendonça de Mattos, or simply Marcelo Mattos, is a Brazilian former football player. He was born on February 10, 1984. He played as a defensive midfielder. This means he helped protect his team's goal and also moved the ball forward to help with attacks.
Marcelo was known for being good at positioning himself on the field. He was also good at closely marking opposing players and bringing the ball forward to his teammates who were trying to score.

Marcelo's Football Journey
Starting in Brazil and Moving to Japan
Marcelo Mattos started his football career in Brazil. He began playing at a club called Mirassol. After playing there, he moved to Japan to play for FC Tokyo in the J1 League. He also played for Oita Trinita for a short time.
Success in Brazil
After his time in Japan, Marcelo returned to Brazil. He joined Associação Desportiva São Caetano. His great performances there led him to join Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.
At Corinthians, Marcelo became a very important player. He played alongside famous players like Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. This group of players was so good that they were called the "team of the year" after winning the championship in 2005.
Playing for Brazil's Youth Team
Marcelo was also part of the Brazilian team that played in the FIFA U-17 World Championship 2001. This was a big tournament for young players. He impressed many people with his skills during this time.
Playing in Greece
On July 6, 2007, Marcelo Mattos signed a four-year deal to play for the Greek team Panathinaikos. He played there for a few seasons.
In July 2008, Panathinaikos bought most of the rights to Marcelo as a player. This showed how much they valued him.
Returning to Brazil
Marcelo returned to Brazil on loan to Sport Club Corinthians Paulista on August 26, 2009. This loan deal lasted for one year.
Later, on July 20, 2010, he was announced as a player for Botafogo. He was eventually sold to Botafogo permanently on July 3, 2011. He continued to play for various clubs in Brazil until he retired.
