Marcin Kazanowski was an important person in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He was born around 1563 or 1566 and passed away on October 19, 1636. He was a noble, which means he belonged to a powerful family.
He held many important jobs during his life. He was a castellan of Halice starting in 1622. This was like being in charge of a castle or a region. Later, in 1632, he became a voivode of Podole. A voivode was a high-ranking governor of a large area. His most important role was Field Crown Hetman from 1633. A Hetman was a top military commander.
Marcin Kazanowski married Katarzyna Starzycka in the year 1600. They had a son named Dominik Aleksander Kazanowski. Dominik also grew up to be an important leader, serving as a voivode. Marcin's family, the Kazanowski family, was very old and respected. They even founded a town called Kazanów in 1566.

Marcin Kazanowski was a skilled military leader. He fought in many important battles for the Commonwealth.
Fighting the Swedes
In 1629, he served under another famous commander, Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski. Marcin Kazanowski was one of the main officers in the Battle of Górzno. This battle was fought against the Swedish army. His leadership helped the Commonwealth forces.
The Madonna Legend
There is a famous story about Hetman Kazanowski. It says that during a battle against the Tatars, he found a special icon of the Blessed Virgin. His soldiers believed this was a miracle. It made them feel much braver and stronger. This boost in morale helped them win the battle.
Wars with Russia
Marcin Kazanowski also fought in wars against the Russian Tsardom. He served under King Władysław IV Vasa. His military skills were very important in these conflicts. He helped protect the borders of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
