What the Bible Says About Miracles
In the Bible, a miracle is seen as a direct act from God. It shows that God is present and powerful. These events can be small, affecting just one person. Or they can be huge, like a massive change in nature that impacts the whole world.
Amazing Bible Miracles
The Bible describes many different kinds of miracles. Here are some examples that show God's power and care:
God's Authority and Power
These miracles show that God has control over everything:
- Moses parts the Red Sea. This allowed the people of Israel to escape from Egypt.
- Jesus commands a storm to stop. The strong winds and waves immediately became calm.
Wonderful Healings
Miracles of healing show God's ability to restore health:
- A man who could not walk since birth is healed by Jesus. He then stands up and walks for the first time.
- Jesus makes a man who was born blind able to see.
Judgment for Wrongdoing
Sometimes, miracles are acts of judgment when people do very bad things:
- People became so evil that God sent a great flood. Only Noah and his family were saved.
- Two members of the early Jerusalem church are struck dead. This happened because they lied to God.
Providing What's Needed
These miracles show God providing for people's needs in amazing ways:
- God gives manna (a special food) to the Israelites. This happened as they traveled through the desert.
- Jesus feeds thousands of people. He used only five small loaves of bread and two fish.
Bringing People Back to Life
Some of the most incredible miracles involve raising the dead:
- By God's power, Elijah brings a widow’s dead son back to life.
- Jesus raises his friend, Lazarus, from the dead.
Keeping People Safe
Miracles can also show God protecting people from harm:
- King Nebuchadnezzar tries to burn Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. But God keeps them safe in a fiery furnace.
Special Visions
Sometimes, miracles are visions that reveal important messages:
- The prophet Isaiah has a vision of God. He sees God seated on his throne surrounded by angels.
- Saul has a vision of Jesus. This amazing event completely changed his life.
Miracles in Other Religions
Many other religious books also talk about miracles. The Quran, Mahabharata, and Avesta are examples. They all contain stories of amazing events. For instance, the Quran tells of Muhammad splitting the moon into two halves.
