Who is Marco Minnemann?
Marco Minnemann, born on December 24, 1970, is a very talented musician and composer from Germany. He is best known for his amazing drumming. But he also plays other instruments like guitar and even sings on some of his own albums! He has released more than a dozen solo albums and played drums on over 100 albums for many different artists and bands.
His Amazing Musical Journey
Marco has been part of many cool bands throughout his career. He was a member of a German band called Freaky Fukin Weirdoz, which mixed funk and heavy metal music. He also played and recorded with the German rock band H-Blockx. He has even worked with the famous English musician Steven Wilson, who has been nominated for a Grammy Award.
Since 2013, Marco has been the drummer for Joe Satriani, a legendary guitar player. He is also the drummer for the Mute Gods, a band led by Nick Beggs. In June 2007, Marco was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer magazine. The magazine praised him for developing a special drumming technique called "complex interdependence." This technique allows him to play different drum patterns with each of his feet and hands at the same time! It's like his limbs are all playing their own unique parts, but they work together perfectly.
Creative Projects and Auditions
In 2006, Marco recorded a 51-minute drum solo. This solo became the base for his Normalizer 2 project. He shared this drum track with other musicians and asked them to write their own music to go along with it. Many of these new songs were released as duo albums, like Modulator with Trey Gunn and 24 Tales with Alex Machacek.
In 2011, Marco tried out to play with the American progressive rock band Dream Theater. Even though he was a great drummer, he didn't join the band. He didn't know all of their songs very well and wasn't ready to commit to them fully.
Joining Supergroups
In late 2017, Marco joined an international progressive rock "supergroup" called the Sea Within. A supergroup is a band made up of musicians who are already famous from other bands. This band was started by Swedish guitarist Roine Stolt. Marco played on their first album, which came out in 2018.
Marco is also a member of an instrumental rock "power trio" called the Aristocrats. A power trio is a rock band with only three members, usually a guitarist, bassist, and drummer. In this band, he plays alongside amazing musicians Guthrie Govan and Bryan Beller. In 2019, they released their fourth album, You know what...?
In 2020, Marco started a new musical project with Randy McStine called McStine & Minnemann. They released two albums together in the same year!
Voice Acting Fun
Marco even used his voice in the animated TV series Metalocalypse! He was a voice actor in the second season of the show, which aired in 2008. Another famous musician, Mike Patton from Faith No More, was also in that episode.
