Marcola is a small, unincorporated community in Lane County, Oregon, United States. It is located northeast of Springfield along the Mohawk River. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

History of Marcola

Marcola has an interesting past. The first post office in this area opened in 1876. It was originally named "Isabel" after an early settler, Isabel Applegate.

How Marcola Got its Name

Between 1899 and 1900, a railroad was built through the Mohawk Valley. A new train station was set up near the post office. This station was given the name "Marcola." This name was created to honor Mary Cole, who was the wife of the community's founder, Columbus Cole. In 1901, the post office changed its name to "Marcola" to match the train station.
