Marcy Borders (born July 19, 1973 – died August 24, 2015) was an American legal assistant. She worked for Bank of America in the World Trade Center in New York City. She survived the terrible attacks on September 11, 2001.
Stan Honda, a photographer, took a picture of Marcy Borders right after the buildings fell. She was completely covered in dust. This photo became very famous and was seen all over the world. Because of this powerful image, Marcy Borders became known as "The Dust Lady".

Marcy's Life After the Attacks
Marcy Borders was 28 years old and living in Bayonne, New Jersey. On September 11, 2001, she was working on the 81st floor of the North Tower when the attack happened. Marcy said that she never fully recovered from the very difficult experience of the attack. The event deeply affected her life and well-being.
She found some peace and a turning point in her recovery after learning about the death of Osama bin Laden. Marcy kept the clothes she wore in the famous photo. It was a reminder of what she had been through.
The Famous 'Dust Lady' Photo
The photo of Marcy Borders taken by Stan Honda became a very important image. Many articles written about the 9/11 attacks remembered her. The Daily Telegraph newspaper featured her as one of the survivors they wrote about for the tenth anniversary of the attacks.
Marcy Borders was even invited to a special memorial event in Germany to mark ten years since 9/11. Her image helped people remember the human impact of that day.
Health and Passing
In August 2014, Marcy Borders was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She believed her cancer was caused by the toxic dust she breathed when the World Trade Center collapsed. She once said, "I definitely believe it because I haven't had any illnesses. I don't have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes."
Marcy Borders passed away from cancer on August 24, 2015. She was remembered as a symbol of survival and the lasting effects of the 9/11 attacks.

The famous "Dust Lady" photo is mentioned in a novel by Julie Buxbaum. The book is called Hope and Other Punch Lines. It tells a story about a fictional photo from 9/11.
