A Look Back at Mardan Tehsil's History
Mardan Tehsil has a long and interesting past. It has changed quite a bit over the years. Understanding its history helps us see how it became the place it is today.
Mardan Under British Rule
During the time when the British ruled India, Mardan was part of the Peshawar District. Its borders were different back then compared to now. It covered a large area of about 610 square miles. This area was mostly the Yusufzai plain.
Size and Population Changes
Mardan Tehsil, along with Swabi Tehsil, formed a special part of Peshawar District. In 1891, about 113,877 people lived there. By 1901, the population had grown to 137,215 people. This shows how the area was developing even then.
The tehsil included the military area of Mardan, which had 3,572 people. It also had 130 villages, including well-known places like Hoti and Rustam. The government collected money from land, which was about 176,000 rupees in 1903-1904. This money helped run the area.
