Margaret of Blois (French: Marguerite; died 1230) was a powerful noblewoman in medieval France. She held the title of Countess of Blois in her own right (this is called suo jure) from 1218 until her death in 1230.
Who Was Margaret of Blois?
Margaret was born around 1170. She was the daughter of Theobald V, Count of Blois, a powerful count, and Alix of France. Her mother, Alix, was also a princess of France. This made Margaret part of a very important family.

Margaret married three times during her life. Each marriage helped her family gain more power or land.
Her first husband was Hugh of Oisy. He was the Lord of Montmirail.
Her second marriage was to Otto I, Count of Burgundy. He was the Count of Burgundy. With Otto, Margaret had two daughters.
Finally, she married Walter II of Avesnes. He was a powerful lord. They also had children together.
