Margaret of York was a young princess born in 1472. She was the fifth child of Edward IV of England, who was the King, and his wife, Elizabeth Woodville. Margaret was named after her aunt, Margaret of York, who was a powerful Duchess in Burgundy.

Princess Margaret had many brothers and sisters. Her older siblings included Elizabeth of York, Mary of York, Cecily of York, and Edward V of England. She also had younger siblings like Richard of Shrewsbury, 1st Duke of York, Anne of York, George Plantagenet, Duke of Bedford, Catherine of York, and Bridget of York.

Her Short Life

Margaret was born at Winchester Castle in England on April 10, 1472. Sadly, she passed away just eight months later, on December 11, 1472. She died from natural causes, which means she was not hurt or sick in a way that people understood back then.

Her Burial Place

After her death, Princess Margaret was buried in a very famous church called Westminster Abbey. This is a special place where many kings, queens, and important people from British history are laid to rest.

Her stone coffin, called a sarcophagus, was first placed near the shrine of St. Edward the Confessor. Later, it was moved to the edge of the chapel. You can still see the special edging around the sides of her sarcophagus today.

Records from the Abbey's library say that the lid of her sarcophagus was opened a long time ago. When it was opened, people found that the sarcophagus was empty. The metal plaque that was originally on top of her tomb is now missing, but its words were written down in history books.

Her Royal Family Tree

Margaret of York came from a very important family. Her family tree shows her parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. This helps us understand her royal connections.
