Birth and Royal Title
Prince George was born at Windsor Castle in March 1477. This famous castle is in Berkshire, England. Even as a baby, George was given an important title. He became the Duke of Bedford, probably in 1478.
This title had belonged to someone else before him, George Neville. But George Neville lost the title. This happened because he didn't have enough money to live like a duke. So, the title was given to the infant Prince George instead.
Lord Lieutenant of Ireland
In 1478, Prince George also received another important role. He was named the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. This was a very high position. However, because he was just a baby, it was mostly an honorary title. He was not actually able to govern Ireland. Many people who held this title at the time were not truly present in Ireland.
