After her first play, Maria Alice joined the Teatro Oficina. This was a very important theater group. She acted in a famous play called O Rei da Vela. This play was later made into a movie. She also worked with another group called the Living Theatre.
Maria Alice helped start her own theater group. It was called the Teatro do Ornitorrinco. She worked with Luiz Roberto Galízia and Cacá Rosset. She performed in many shows with this group.
