Maria Teresa Cabré i Castellví, often called M. Teresa Cabré, was born in 1947. She is a very important linguist from Catalonia, Spain. A linguist is someone who studies language. She is a professor at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and is an expert in how words are used and created.
Since 2021, she has been the president of the Institute for Catalan Studies. This is a major organization that helps protect and develop the Catalan language and culture. Her work focuses on lexicology (the study of words), lexicography (making dictionaries), and terminology (special words used in certain fields).

Maria Teresa Cabré was born in L'Argentera, a town in Catalonia, Spain, in 1947. She studied language and earned her doctorate in Romance philology in 1976. This means she became an expert in languages that came from Latin, like Spanish and Catalan.
Her Teaching Career
Maria Teresa Cabré has taught at several universities.
- From 1970 to 1971, she was a professor at the University of the Balearic Islands.
- From 1971 to 1993, she taught at the University of Barcelona.
- Since 1994, she has been teaching Linguistics and Terminology at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).
Leading Language Projects
Maria Teresa Cabré has also led many important projects related to language.
- From 1982 to 1988, she was the director of TERMCAT. This is a center that works on creating and standardizing terms in the Catalan language.
- She directed the University Institute of Applied Linguistics at Pompeu Fabra University.
- She also leads the Center of Reference in Linguistic Engineering (CREL). This center helps with research in language technology.

- In 2007, she won the Eugen Wüster International Terminology Award in Vienna. This award recognizes major contributions to the field of terminology.
- In 2008, she was made a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. This is a special honor from France for people who have made important contributions to arts and literature.
- In 2015, she received the Creu de Sant Jordi. This is one of the highest honors given by the government of Catalonia.
- She has also received honorary degrees, called Doctor honoris causa, from different universities. This means they recognize her great achievements even though she didn't study there.
- In 2006, she received one from Ricardo Palma University in Lima.
- In 2018, she received one from the University of Geneva.
