Maria de Lourdes Martins (born May 26, 1926 – died August 31, 2009) was a talented Portuguese musician. She was a wonderful pianist and also composed her own music.

Maria de Lourdes Martins was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Her mother, Maria Helena Martins, was also a music teacher at the Lisbon Conservatory.
Maria de Lourdes studied music at the Lisbon Conservatory. She learned from famous teachers like Abreu Mota, Macário Santiago Kastner, and Marcos Garin. She also studied how to compose music with Artur Santos
and Jorge Croner de Vasconcellos.After finishing her studies, Maria de Lourdes Martins became a teacher herself. She taught at the Lisbon Conservatory, the same place where she had studied. She brought a special way of teaching music called Orff-Schulwerk to Portugal. This system came from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, a famous music school. Maria de Lourdes also won the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Composition Award twice for her amazing music.
