Mariano's Running Career
Early Competitions
Mariano García started competing in big events early in his career. In 2019, he took part in the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, United Kingdom. He finished fourth in the 800 metres race.
Later that year, he represented Spain at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. He ran in the 800 metres but did not move past the first round. In 2021, he competed again at the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland. He reached the semi-finals in the 800 metres.
Winning Gold Medals
The year 2022 was very successful for Mariano García. He won two major gold medals.
World Indoor Champion
First, he became a world champion! He won the 800 metres race at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. This was a huge win for him and for Spain.
European Champion
Later in 2022, Mariano also won gold at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich, Germany. He proved again that he was one of the best 800 metres runners.
