About Marilyn Dumont
Marilyn Dumont grew up in northeastern Alberta. She is a descendant of Gabriel Dumont, a famous Métis leader. Marilyn studied at the University of British Columbia. She earned a special degree called an MFA there.
Her poems are very popular. They are often included in many different poetry books. Today, Marilyn Dumont is a full professor at the University of Alberta. She teaches in both the Arts and Native Studies departments. She helps students learn about Indigenous literature and creative writing.

- 1997: She won the Gerald Lampert Award for her book, A Really Good Brown Girl. This award celebrates new poets.
