Mario Fernández's Football Journey
Starting at Racing Santander
Mario Fernández was born in Santander, a city in Cantabria, Spain. He grew up playing football in the youth teams of Racing de Santander. By the 2009–10 season, he was promoted to the main team. He often served as a backup goalkeeper, meaning he was ready to play if the main goalkeepers, Toño and Fabio Coltorti, couldn't. He also played for the club's reserve team, Racing B.
Mario made his first official appearance for Racing's main team on January 6, 2010. This was in a Copa del Rey match, where his team won 3–2 against AD Alcorcón. He played in a few more games in that tournament, helping his team reach the semi-finals. Later, on May 15, 2011, he made his debut in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. He even earned the "player of the match" award in that game!
Time with Osasuna
On August 4, 2015, Mario signed a two-year contract with CA Osasuna, another Spanish football club. At Osasuna, he was mainly a backup goalkeeper. He left the club in 2017 when his contract ended.
Playing for Rayo Vallecano
After leaving Osasuna, Mario joined Rayo Vallecano on August 18, 2017. This team was in the second division at the time. He played in only two official matches for them. However, his team had a great season and became champions of the Segunda División! This meant they moved up to the top league, La Liga.
Moving to Cartagena
In the summer of 2018, Mario Fernández moved to FC Cartagena. This team played in the third tier of Spanish football.
