Marjorie Bennett (born January 15, 1896 – died June 14, 1982) was an Australian actress. She was well-known for her many roles in films and TV shows, mostly in the United Kingdom and the United States. Marjorie started her acting journey during the time of silent films, before movies had sound.

Marjorie Bennett's Acting Career

Marjorie Bennett was born in a place called York in Western Australia. She had two sisters, Enid and Catherine, who also became actresses in Hollywood.

Starting in Silent Films

Marjorie began acting in movies in 1917. Back then, films were "silent," meaning they didn't have spoken dialogue, only music and sometimes text on screen. Later, she successfully moved into "talking pictures," which were movies with sound. She had small but memorable parts in films like Monsieur Verdoux (1947) and Washington Story (1952).

Famous Roles in Movies and TV

In 1952, Marjorie played Charlie Chaplin's landlady in the movie Limelight. She also appeared as a guest star on many popular TV shows. Some of these included I Love Lucy, The Great Gildersleeve, and December Bride.

Between 1958 and 1961, she played a character named Amanda Comstock in three episodes of The Real McCoys. From 1959 to 1961, she was cast ten times as Blossom Kenney on the TV show The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.

Later Years in Television

In the 1970s, Marjorie continued to act in many TV shows. You might have seen her in episodes of Mission: Impossible, Adam-12, CHiPs, and Happy Days. She also had a role in the 1973 TV movie Brock's Last Case. In the 1973 film Charley Varrick, she played Mrs. Taft. Marjorie also appeared in several TV commercials during the 1970s. Her very last appearance on screen was in 1980, on the TV series Barney Miller.
