Mark Connolly (born September 2, 1955 – died April 13, 2019) was an American businessman and a public official in New Hampshire. He worked to protect people's investments and also served as a lawmaker.
Connolly was a candidate for Governor of New Hampshire in 2016, running for the Democratic Party. Before that, he was a lawmaker in the New Hampshire state government. He also worked as a high-ranking helper to the Secretary of State and led the office that watches over investments from 2002 to 2010.

Early Life and Education
Mark Connolly was born in Newton, Massachusetts. He went to Dartmouth College, where he earned a degree in government and environmental studies. Later, he received a higher degree in business from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

First Steps in Politics
In 1977, while still a student at Dartmouth College, Connolly was chosen to be a State Representative for Bedford, New Hampshire. At that time, he was a member of the Republican Party.
Working in Finance
After his time as a lawmaker, Connolly worked for several big companies. He helped manage money and investments for places like First Chicago Bank, Chubb Life Insurance, Fleet bank, and Wellington Management Company.
Protecting Investors
Later, Mark Connolly returned to public service. He became the Deputy Secretary of State for New Hampshire. After that, he was appointed as the Director of the Bureau of Securities Regulation. In this role, he was like a watchdog for investments. He oversaw important cases against large companies such as Tyco International, Ameriprise, ING, Morgan Stanley, and UBS. These cases helped collect over $55 million in fines and money returned to investors.
Because of his important work, Connolly received awards. The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) gave him their Outstanding Service Award in 2010. He also received their Enforcement Award in 2007 for his efforts in protecting investors.
Starting His Own Business
In 2010, Connolly left his role at the Bureau of Securities Regulation. He then started his own company called New Castle Investment Advisors, LLC. This company, located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, helped people manage their money.
Running for Governor
On November 5, 2015, Mark Connolly announced he would run for Governor of New Hampshire. He sought the Democratic Party's nomination for the election in 2016. However, his campaign was not successful.
Personal Life
Mark Connolly lived in New Castle, New Hampshire. He was very involved in his community. He used to be the head of the town's Planning Board. He also served on the boards of several important local organizations. These included the Strawbery Banke Museum and the Portsmouth Athenaeum. He also helped New Hampshire Child and Family Services and the New Hampshire Audubon.
Mark Connolly passed away on April 13, 2019. He died in Rancho Mirage, California, due to health problems from a sudden brain hemorrhage.
