Marko Gobeljić, born on September 13, 1992, is a professional football player from Serbia. He plays as a right back for the club OFK Beograd in the Serbian SuperLiga.

Marko Gobeljić's Football Journey

Marko Gobeljić started his football journey at a local school called Bubamara 1991. He then joined the youth teams of Sloga Kraljevo.

Playing for Sloga Kraljevo

Gobeljić began playing for Sloga Kraljevo's main team in the 2010–11 season. He played 27 league games and one Serbian Cup match. In his first season, he mostly played as a midfielder. Sometimes, he also played as a right-back.

For the 2011–12 season, Sloga Kraljevo was promoted to the Serbian First League. Gobeljić scored three goals in 31 league matches that season. He often played as a central midfielder but also as a right-back. In one game, he even played as a centre-back.

During the 2012–13 season, Gobeljić continued as a central midfielder. Later, his coach moved him to play as a right-back. He was one of the most consistent players, appearing in 32 league games.

In the 2013–14 season, Gobeljić became the team's vice-captain. On September 25, 2013, he scored a goal in a Serbian Cup match against Vojvodina. He became known as a utility player, meaning he could play well in many different positions. He mostly played as a right-back during this season.

Time at Napredak Kruševac

In July 2014, Gobeljić joined Napredak. He made his Serbian SuperLiga debut for Napredak on August 9, 2014. He quickly became one of the team's best players. On April 9, 2015, he scored his first goal for Napredak against Vojvodina. Napredak was later moved down to a lower league.

After Napredak was relegated, Gobeljić played in all matches during the first half of the 2015–16 season. He started as a right-back but moved back to midfield after another player joined the team. He scored a goal in March 2016. Napredak won the 2015–16 Serbian First League that season and was promoted back to the top league.

In the summer of 2016, Gobeljić scored two goals in friendly matches. He scored his first goal in the 2016–17 Serbian SuperLiga season against Red Star Belgrade on July 22, 2016. He scored another goal against Čukarički in September 2016 and was named the best player of that match. He extended his contract with Napredak in October 2016. He continued to score goals against other teams like Novi Pazar and Partizan. His last goal for Napredak was in April 2017.

Joining Red Star Belgrade

On June 7, 2017, news spread that Gobeljić was signing with Red Star Belgrade. He officially joined the club two days later, signing a three-year contract. He played his first game for Red Star in a UEFA Europa League qualifying match. He was sent off (given a red card) shortly after coming on as a substitute. He played his first "eternal derby" match against Partizan on August 27, 2017. He scored his first goal for Red Star in November 2017.

On May 13, 2018, he made two assists in a game against Vojvodina and was named the best player of the match. On July 20, 2018, Gobeljić was the team captain in a 3–0 win against Dinamo Vranje.

On July 16, 2019, Gobeljić received a red card in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match. He had made a tackle that unfortunately caused a serious injury to an opposing player. Gobeljić visited the player in the hospital to apologize.

In June 2020, he tested positive for COVID-19.

In May 2021, after Red Star won the Serbian Cup final against Partizan Belgrade, Gobeljić made a gesture that caused some controversy. Red Star later apologized for his actions and said he would be disciplined.

International Career

Gobeljić was called to play for the Serbia national team in September 2016. He made his first international appearance in a friendly match against Qatar. He also played in a friendly match against the United States in January 2017.

Playing Style

Throughout his career, Marko Gobeljić has shown he is a very versatile player. He started as a central midfielder and could play on both the left and right sides of the field. When he played for Sloga Kraljevo, he also spent time as a right-back. At Napredak and Red Star, he continued to play in various positions.

His coaches have used him as a second striker, winger, left-back, and even a defensive midfielder. For the national team, he was sometimes used as a centre forward or an attacking midfielder.
