Markus Schopp was born on February 22, 1974. He is a football coach from Austria and used to be a midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defend. Today, he is the main coach for a football club called LASK in Austria's top league.

Playing Career: Clubs
Markus Schopp played football for many clubs. In Austria, he played for Sturm Graz and Red Bull Salzburg. With Sturm Graz, he helped them win the top Austrian football league, the Austrian Football Bundesliga, in the 1998–1999 season.
He also played in Germany for Hamburger SV. Later, he moved to Italy and played for Brescia Calcio. There, he played alongside famous footballers like Roberto Baggio and Pep Guardiola.
Markus Schopp stopped playing football in December 2007. He had to retire because of ongoing back problems. His last team was the New York Red Bulls in the United States, where he played for a short time.
Playing Career: National Team
Markus Schopp also played for his country, the Austrian national team. His first game for Austria was in August 1995. This was a qualifying match for the European Championship against Latvia.
He was part of the Austrian team that played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Overall, he played 56 games for Austria and scored 6 goals. His last game for the national team was in October 2005, during a World Cup qualifying match against Northern Ireland.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Markus Schopp started a new career as a coach. He began by working with young players at Red Bull Salzburg.
In April 2013, he became the temporary head coach for his old club, Sturm Graz. He coached them until the end of that season.
In 2018, Schopp became the manager of TSV Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga. In the 2019–2020 season, he led Hartberg to their best-ever finish in the league. This amazing achievement meant the club qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the very first time in their history. He was known for helping young players get better during his time coaching Sturm Graz and Hartberg.
In June 2021, Schopp moved to England to coach Barnsley, a club in the EFL Championship. He signed a three-year contract. However, after a difficult period with 13 games without a win, Barnsley decided to let him go in November 2021.
He returned to TSV Hartberg in December 2022 and coached them until September 2024. Since September 2024, he has been the head coach of LASK.
Personal Life
Markus Schopp has a nephew named Christoph Urdl. Christoph is also a footballer and played for Hartberg when Markus Schopp was the coach there.
