Marcos Gomes de Araujo, known to many as Marquinhos, is a talented former football player from Brazil. He was born on March 23, 1976. Marquinhos played as a forward, which means he was usually trying to score goals for his team. Most of his career was spent playing in Japan's top football league, the J1 League.

Marquinhos' Football Journey

Marquinhos began his professional football journey in Spain with a team called CD Ourense. After that, he played for many different teams in Brazil and Japan. He became very well-known for his time in Japan.

Top Scorer and MVP

He became the J. League Top Scorer in Japan's J. League in the 2008 season, scoring 21 goals! His team, Kashima Antlers, won the league title that year, and it was their second win in a row.

On December 22, 2008, Marquinhos received a very special award: the J. League Most Valuable Player. This award is given to the best player in the entire J. League. He was only the second player from Kashima Antlers to win this big award.

Moving Teams

On January 22, 2011, Marquinhos left Kashima Antlers to join Vegalta Sendai. However, he left Vegalta Sendai on April 9, 2011. He had played only one league match for them.

On January 11, 2012, Marquinhos returned to the J1 League in Japan. He signed with one of his former clubs, Yokohama F. Marinos.
