Football Journey
Marquinhos started his professional football journey in Spain. He played for a team called CD Ourense in 1996. After that, he played for several teams in his home country, Brazil, and then moved to Japan.
Success in Japan
Marquinhos became a very famous player in Japan. He was the top scorer in the 2008 J. League season, scoring 21 goals! This helped his team, Kashima Antlers, win the league title for the second year in a row.
Because of his fantastic performance, Marquinhos received a very special award on December 22, 2008. He was named the J. League Most Valuable Player. This is the highest award a player can get in the J. League. He was only the second player from Kashima Antlers to win it.
Moving Teams
In 2011, Marquinhos joined another Japanese team, Vegalta Sendai. However, he left the club shortly after. This was because of the very serious earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011. The disaster affected many people, and Marquinhos decided to leave the team. He only played one league match for Sendai.
After a short time playing for Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, Marquinhos returned to the Japanese League in 2012. He signed with one of his old clubs, Yokohama F. Marinos. He continued to play well and score goals for them. Later, he also played for Vissel Kobe before ending his professional career.
