Marsella is a charming town and municipality in the Risaralda Department of Colombia. It is located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Pereira, the capital city. In 2023, the town had an estimated population of 17,208 people.

Discovering Marsella's Past
Marsella has an interesting history! It was founded in 1915. Some of the first people to establish the town were Pedro Pineda, Nepomuceno Correa, and José Bedoya.
Initially, the area was known as Villa Rica. In 1864, General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera added "Segovia" to its name, making it Villa Rica de Segovia. On April 8, 1915, Villa Rica de Segovia was renamed Marsella. Finally, July 18, 1915, was recognized as the official date of its founding as a municipality.
